Flags have been around as long as territories and areas have been claimed by people . It was a way for humans to make claim to the area in which they believed was theirs. Flags have changed over the years but some have stayed remarkably similar to the ones that initially represented their country. One great example is the American flag that still has stars and stripes on it like it had hundreds of years ago. A lot of public buildings have flags displayed for various reasons such as schools, summer camps and even hospitals. This article will describe why some of these places use flags to decorate their building and where they may purchase them when they need more whether it is a flag store or if they wish to create a custom flag.

Many colleges and universities may use flags from different countries represented around their campus. One example is a small liberal arts college named Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. There are flags in the students’ dining room which go around the entire room. Every flag represents the countries that are currently represented on campus by the students and the staff. Every year, as these countries change with students coming in and graduating, the flags must rotate too so staying on top of buying new flags is an important factor for someone at Gustavus . It would be very convenient for them to be able to just order these flags over the internet and have it delivered on campus.

Another common place you may see flags from countries all over the world is at a hospital . Many hospitals have flags flying on flagpoles near their main entrances as patients, staff and visitors enter the building . It would be hard to change out the flags as frequently as patients enter and exit from the hospital so honoring the countries of the different patients would not be feasible . Usually the flags that are displayed at a hospital are all of the countries that are represented by the various staff at the hospital from the woman that works in food service all the way to the head of the neurosurgery department.

Because America is such a melting pot of different cultures and types of people that may have been raised in a different country, it is great to acknowledge that fact. Another place that flags are displayed is at a camp for kids in the Rocky Mountains. Many children go to this camp from all over the country and world as well and it may be somewhat frightening and intimidating for them. When they enter the main lodge, they may feel comforted by the sight of their nation’s flag displayed for them to see and let them know that they should feel welcomed and celebrated as a camper there.

Flags explode with colors and are beautiful and the sight of many different ones hanging in a building not only makes a great statement but can be a great decorative touch as well .
