Teach Your Child How To Live Right

As people grow up they need to be taught what is good for their body so it can function at its best for a long time. Children are fooled by the packaging of foods to make them think that they are making the right choices. They have yet to discover that just because something looks good does not necessarily mean that it is good for you. It is up to a child’s guardians to demonstrate healthy habits and to make them understand the importance of them.

It doesn’t do any good to tell your young ones that they need to eat right so that they can grow up strong and healthy if you are not also eating right. A child knows that chocolate makes you happy. That is a reason why he should have some. A person can try and explain that yes, it does in fact make me happy, but it isn’t really that good for our bodies. Kids have a hard time believing that vegetables are better for them than candy.

Children as young as 18 months old can understand that a banana is good for them but the candy that they will not do much to help them grow big and strong. There is not age limit on allowing a kid to help in the kitchen, even the smallest children can help in some way if a person thinks about it. Beginning at 3-4 years old, depending on the child’s abilities, children can begin be part of the food preparation process. If a child has seen where a food comes from and what is in it they are going to be more inclined to try things that they had a hand in.

Education about what is healthy and what is not is a fun activity for many young kids. Trivia can be used to teach a child about the facts behind the foods that are good for them and how they are good for them. Food is all about the feel, the smell, the sight, and the taste and kids can be made aware of these things through the games.

In addition to learning to watch what they eat, children need to learn the importance of exercise. Kids need to get between 30 to 60 minutes of activity everyday. A child can learn this during their infancy. It doesn’t matter if the child is out helping walk the family dog or doing a six pack ab exercise program with their dad in the evening, the need for activity cannot be overemphasized. Children can learn to love healthy food choices and be taught to make good choices on their own. Learning the healthy habits when they have people around to teach them will allow them to follow through with these habits when they are out on their own.
