Sewing Downs is Perfect for Newborn Nursery Bedding
Thursday, July 2, 2009 4:52Quilts might not be your first thought when it comes to baby bedding, but they are perfect for nursery decor. A quilted blanket will keep baby snug and warm, while imparting a homey country-look to the nursery. Crib bedding sets the atmosphere of the room yet remain useful.
If you have internet access, you can learn to design and make a quilt - it’s not difficult. To help with selecting the right quilt design for your baby’s bedding, you may search online for no charge. There are many quilting books with many designs and if you need extra help, there are kits with pre-cut pieces.
People who are first time quilters should be sure to start with simple projects and move on to more difficult designs later. Beginner and hobby quilters will find that their pattern comes with easy to follow instructions and helpful tips. You can even cook up your own template, but make sure that you’re a good enough quilter to make it worth your while. If you are serious about making bedding quilts, so many tools–like frames that help stretch the fabric for alignment–are available.
Baby bedding is available in quilt-style: patterns from sewing together fabric squares; and theme-style: prints of animals, flora, colors, and appliques. Selection of theme fabrics can be daunting during the quilting process, but with some care you can match the colors of the baby’s room and the theme you choose for the overall design. Even a beautiful, intricately-designed quilt can clash with a room’s decor, diminishing its visual appeal.
If you do not want to quilt by hand, you can go in for machines that do the job and they are available in sewing stores and online too. A quilt that is hand stitched is worth more money than those that are made with a machine.
If you have leisure, you can learn quilting. It calms people and relieves stress. While waiting for the baby to arrive, a mother-to-be can occupy her time with a baby bedding project.
