Shopping online for baby bedding brings a vast selection. This can be great when you know what you want and you’re just trying to find it. But if you haven’t already got a clear picture of what you’re looking for, shopping online can actually confuse you even more. Animal designs come in everything from a caterpillar baby crib bedding set to elephants. Angels are another popular theme, both for shoppers and designers. There are hundreds of different bedding sets to choose from. If you’re looking for a really popular theme like cartoon characters or nursery rhymes, you may be doomed LOL.

Whether it’s boy baby bedding or baby girl, it can be really difficult to stick within your budget, because everything is so sweet. Baby bedding can be incredibly cute, and every parent wants the best for their new baby. But you’ve got to realize that your baby isn’t going to know the difference. If you’re wondering what are the most important considerations, here are a few of them:

- If you are considering crib bumpers, be aware that they have certain risks associated with them. Bumper pads are designed to prevent your baby’s head from bumping up against the crib’s railings, but they also pose a potential suffocation risk. Until his or her first birthday, it is highly recommended to keep bumpers (and any other loose or unnecessary bedding) out of your child’s crib. But for anyone who decides to put them in anyway, at least make sure that the ties are short, on the outside of the crib, and very tightly tied.

- You won’t find sheet sets for cribs, because babies don’t use flat sheets or pillowcases, just the fitted sheet. When buying crib sheets, be sure you know the size of your mattress first. If the sheets don’t fit snugly, they may peel off the mattress. Not only is this annoying, it’s a serious health risk. New parents may be unprepared for the messes that babies bring with them, but those white sheets you bought won’t look so adorable after a couple of diaper leaks and some spitup. If you’re concerned about your mattress, invest in a waterproof cover, too.

- As far as blankets go, babies don’t need to be any warmer than adults, and loose blankets can also cause problems. Stick with a sleep sack instead. Also, keep pillows and stuffed animals out of the crib. Babies don’t need them and they can be a serious suffocation risk.

When you’re evaluating baby bedding, first make sure it’s safe. With so many options available, you can still find something adorable.
