Preparing for Your Family Camping Vacation
Tuesday, May 26, 2009 13:20Many people enjoy camping. It is the kind of family outing that people have enjoyed for many, decades. Particularly these days when many people are struggling financially, it is a way to take your family on a holiday and one that will provide everyone with fantastic memories. The best camping trips result from those people that prepare the best. There are several things to ponder ahead of time such as the different types of rain gear in the event of inclement weather or to have a First aid kit or First aid kits available in the event that someone getssick or injured. These are all things that will be mentioned in this article.
The first thing to decide is what type of camper are you? Do you want to camp with a RV or is a tent what youprefer? Once that is decided, find the location of a campground that will accommodateallow either a RV hook-up or a campsite suitable for setting up a tent. Many campgrounds require reservations so plan ahead as soon as you know when you want to go camping.
Theoptimal way to plan what tobring camping is to sit down and make a list. Then as youbegin packing for the vacation you can just check everythingall of the items off of the list to make sure you have included it. Put your list in different categories such as shelter, food, food related items, sleeping items, cooking and fire supplies, cleaning, and personal safety and first aid products. Write down everything that you can imagine you will need. Think of what you need during a typical day. Things such as a wash basin and dish soap are often forgotten when going camping but how else will you clean your dishes? Depending on how hardcore of a camper you are, you may either have an inflatable mattress with sheets, pillows and blankets or simply a sleeping bag on the floor of the tent will do. These are all thingsto think about to make your trip a successful one. Another thing to remember is whether your campsite will be accessible by vehicle or if you have to hike into it. This could really determinedecide how many things you can bring, obviously. Good meal planning is also a good way to camp. If you just packa variety of food without planning you will be disappointed. If you aretraveling with another family, decide which meals to make for everyone then you will not have to cook or make every meal.
Besides all of the basic necessities of food, type of shelter etc, the most important thing to plan for is your safety. Always [pack|bring} one first aid kit or even several first aid kits to make sure your family can be helped in case of a minor skinned knee or a possible altercation with an animal that wandered too close to your campsite. Sunburn, bug bites and skin rashes due to plants are also common while camping so pack things for that in your first aid kit.
