Monday, February 8, 2010 0:24

A central heating system is a great addition to any home, but a less than desired addition is the rust that starts to appear on your radiators. Rust can be very common, but it is important that you do something about it. Some do decide to leave them as they are, but they don’t look very attractive do they? And of course, any visitors coming round won’t look highly on your decorative rust making an appearance on the radiators. For anyone that is currently suffering with rusty radiators, now is the time to sort the problem out.

For the sake of this article, we’ll call this central heating spring cleaning. It’s a catchy name and it should help persuade you that regular central heating maintenance is essential. This could be booking a boiler service in or cleaning dust off your system, but today’s lesson is all about rusty radiators.

Lets say you are a housewife with central heating Newcastle. Tomorrow is the day when people are coming over to visit you and you just know you have to do something about the radiators before they arrive. Residents of Newcastle, and other places in the UK, are typically inquisitive and like to snoop around people’s homes when they visit, so the last thing you want them to see is a rusty radiator. It might not even be visitors that are coming over – it could be that you’re trying to sell your home, in which case you need to make sure that rusty radiators are absolutely nowhere to be seen! It doesn’t actually matter if you’re a housewife or a bachelor; the tips enclosed herewith will help you get your radiators looking brand new again – whatever the important date is.

Tip1: Did you know that rust is actually very common on radiators, and it is all caused by the water in the central heating system. The first thing to do is to strip back the surface to bare metal. Apply a paint and varnish stripper and then clean the radiator properly.
Tip 2: Once you have done the stripping, the next step is to prime the metal and this will seal the top surface.
Tip 3: Be sure to have an enamel handy to complete the process.
Tip 4: Remember to visit local DIY stores to pick up all the bits you need for doing this.
Tip 5: And finally, just remember not to use any normal paint products on radiators, as these can be very bad for the central heating system.

So, if you want to give the radiators in your home a new lease of life, the tips in this article should help with spring cleaning your central heating system.
