Hints To Employ Lights To Display Great Features In Rooms
Monday, March 8, 2010 16:46For anyone who wants to ring the changes in their living space, finding the right ambience is not easy to do. If there are to be photographs or paintings hung around the room, picture lights will be necessary to present them. With a picture light, the painting will literally shine in the room and it will become a great conversation piece for those visiting.
Many people think that illuminating any space is very simple But those who have tried, and failed, will disagree completely. Depending on what kind of bulb is used the room can look anything from sharp and modern to warm and cozy. Whatever effect is desired, choosing the right kinds of lamps will be very important.
Take, for example, a room where people like to gather. Candles illuminate the table beautifully and give a warm glow to all who may want to linger there. However, if the room is also used as an office then other lighting will be necessary.
There used to be a fashion for adjustable lamp shades that were hung from a weighted spring that was positioned over the desk or table. When the dinner party was intimate and cozy, the fitting could be drawn down to hang just above eye level so that the room was left dark at the edges. If work was being done there, then it was raised to widen the arc thus ensuring that no one would strain to see. These have become a little old fashioned these days but they are still in use in many homes.
Halogen took over some years ago because of the clarity of the illumination which was bright white instead of the yellow light thrown out by normal bulbs. These were hung on multi tracks on the ceiling or wall and each individual lamp holder was pointed towards a painting or place on the wall. They are still very popular even up to today and are usually used in ultra modern homes that are shown off to perfection.
Separate lamps around a room enable the user to see the room clearly but without the need for the illumination to be intrusive in any way. By using several in a room, the effect is warm and intimate. Even watching TV is easier when there is a low density lamp around to allow the eye to be rested. Indeed, experts say that watching TV without another illuminated source will definitely strain the sight so be sure to instruct the children.
Once homeowners have decided on what furnishings they want in any particular room, finding lamps and fittings that match is of paramount importance. Even the painting and photograph illuminations come in several different finishes to mix and match with those fittings already there.
Many will like the ultra modern silver or brushed silver white finishes, but those with more traditional tastes will probably like the antique style finishes to compliment their own particular style. Whichever design is chosen, it can be mixed and matched at will particularly if the fitting has batteries with it. Moving them from room to room could not be any easier because electricity is not needed.
