Loft beds have always reminded me of my college days. During that time I was crammed in a small room, living with a few other students. But if you really look at the advantages of owning a full size loft bed, you may end up wanting to have one in your own home. With a loft bed in place, you can create a study area or a small home office no matter how small your apartment is. You or your child can sleep on the loft bed and use the space under it for various functions. A full size loft bed is also great to have around if you need to furnish a small cabin.

Loft beds are also popular among young urban professionals who are just starting out in a big city. It’s a good thing to have if you’re sharing your space with someone else.

Loft beds come in many forms and sizes. More often than not, loft beds can be categorized according to size and the material used to create the bed.

If you’re looking for models, you can choose between twin size and full size loft beds. Full size loft beds are wider than twin size beds by roughly 15 inches, but if you tend to move around a lot in your sleep, those extra inches will mean a lot. For me, I would rather go for the full size loft bed because it’s still small enough for a tiny room, yet it’s big enough for your needs (especially when you have a guest over). By the way, full size beds used to be called “double beds”..

Basically, loft beds can be made up of a metal frame or wood frame and a sturdy mattress. There’s no ideal frame so your choice depends on how much you’re willing to pay for a loft bed and your aesthetic taste. Wooden frames also have different categories. Cherry and oak hardwood make for excellent loft bed frames.

You can also order a custom made loft bed if the person sleeping in it is too bulky for the commonly sold ones. For instance, if your child is bulkier than average, you can modify the length of the bed or add additional support to the frame.

Lastly, find out if the loft bed you have your eye on has features like built-in shelves and desk. Of course, additional features will jack up the price of the loft bed. Don’t forget to ask the retailer if the price includes assembly. Most loft beds arrive in boxes to be assembled later inside the room.
