Friendly Devices At Home
Monday, June 14, 2010 13:20Wood pellets are friends of nature.
The production of biomass fuel in pellets is an environmentally friendly method of energy production. Wood pellets have appeared relatively recently. World pellets have become popular due to the peculiarities of the combustion process. Burning wood pellets is known for its emitting a certain amount of heat which is comparable to conventional fuels, while the amount of harmful substances is negligible. The amount of heat emitted from the combustion of coal is equivalent to the amount of heat from burning the same amount of wood pellets but the incombustible ash residue and other by – products remaining after burning are up to 1,5%, which is disproportionately small, especially to compare with burning coal up to 50%.
Wood pellets can be considered to be just cylindrical product from the residual dried wood, such as a flour left from the work of woodworking machines known as sawdust, chips and other remnants of forest timber. In other words one can say that sawdust is the most common material for wood pellets. Wood pellets are made without any chemical substances under the high pressure.
Now let’s figure out why a certain interest to wood pellets has arisen today. There are several key factors to this reason. Wood pellets are made of renewable raw materials, unlike oil or gas.
I’ve just told about the same amount of heat emitted both by wood pellets and fossil fuels. Wood pellets don’t require much space for their storage. By the way this stuff is highly competitive in the market. Prices for wood pellets are significantly lower than prices for other traditional fuels, with comparable performance.
Especially I should emphasize some definite factors which have a positive impact on the environment. A certain amount of CO2 or carbon dioxide in wood pellets is as neutral. I should stress that during the combustion of fossil fuels to compare with wood pellets carbon dioxide is released. And this leads to the higher content of CO2 in the atmosphere and consequently to the well known greenhouse effect. Along with the decrease of carbon dioxide emissions wood pellets are also able to decrease sulfur emissions. And results in reduction of acid rain. Using wood as raw material, wood pellets protect our forests. Moreover ash left from the combustion can be used as an universal fertilizer. Ash occupies only 1, 5% of the fuel mass. The ash should be removed in all furnaces and boilers once every two years. I think that it’s very suitable and it’s not time consuming. I don’t think that you are so lazy to remove ash only once every two years. It’s a great advantage to compare with conventional wood burning stoves I suppose. So your fortune has already found this environmentally friendly gift for you.
It is really amazing how talented we get when the time comes to be more well-balanced about energy. The energy crisis that is promised to ahead pushed lots of people to inventing alternative ways of taking care of energy issues. One of the examples – wood pellets which are really great and ecologically genuine.
