Canned produce is not as good as local produce

Today I visited the farmers market. I love fresh, local produce. They taste so much better than their inorganic others . They bring their produce in these neat burlap sacks. They almost make you feel like your in the good old days. When you purchase their food they put the food in these to go bags that are also burlap. I didn’t always know about the farmers market. I used to get my food all the time at The big chain grocery store. I could barely stand their vegetables. They were so tasteless and repulsive. I am never going to go back there for my food, if I don’t have to. One of my good friends had me over for dinner and the food was amazing. Up to that point I have never tasted food that was so amazing.

He let me know about the local farmers market and how he absolutely loves it. He convinced me to go with him the next time he visited there. I reluctantly agreed at first; I was shy and a little intimidated of being outside my comfort zone. However, having a familiar face there would make things easier. We drove out to the middle of nowhere. Out of nowhere I saw a bunch of cars and stands. There were even some wagons pulled by horses. It was a weird sight. We started to walk around looking for some good produce. Everything was organic!

I had never tried anything organic because I never trusted advertising. Who’s to say the farmer didn’t just say it was organic? But I could tell this food really was. Most of the food still had some dirt on it, but when you wiped them off they looked magnificent. I bought just about everything I saw. I wanted to try a little of everything. I was so excited to get home and try the apples and blueberries and carrots and everything else. They were delicious. That’s when I decided never to visit The big chain grocery store again when I can get ten times better produce at the farmers market.

Now I go to the farmers market every week. The only time I can’t go is winter. Nothing is harvested during the winter and the farmers market isn’t even open. Its a pretty depressing time. I am forced to go back to The big chain grocery store and buy their bad produce. The opening week for the farmers market is extremely exciting for me. It signals the change to a more healthy and tastier menu. I have at least a thousand dollars there. I even started buying my meat from the farmers there. The steaks from the organic cows have a striking difference in taste from the inorganic kind.

I have even told some of my friend about the market. Everyone I’ve told about it has loved it. The people there are so interesting to meet. And they often share my disgust for most store bought food items. In fact I met my wife there. We started a conversation when we accidentally bumped into each other when I was buying some apples. We’ve gone back almost every week we’ve been together.
